Ivan Raña cai na estreia....

Foi logo na primeira prova de ciclismo, Challenge de Mallorca que Ivan Raña fazia a sua estreia e com algum azar caiu e ao que parece "ganhou" uma luxação no ombro....

Raña road debut ends with crash; Valverde back

The road racing debut of former world triathlon champion Iván Raña couldn’t have started worse.

Raña crashed in his first road race with Xacobeo-Galicia in Sunday’s high-speed circuit course at the Mallorca Challenge in Spain. Initial reports indicated a broken clavicle, but team officials are reporting a dislocated shoulder, which means only a two-week recovery period.

Raña – a winner of the 2002 world triathlon title – went down with several riders in the 116km circuit course in Palma de Mallorca. Mikel Ilundain, Jonathan Castroviejo and Joseba Larralde (all three Orbea) and Rafal Serrano (Contentpolis-AMPO) also were forced to abandon.

The Spanish athlete is planning on racing on the road with Xacobeo-Galicia during the 2009 season before returning to triathlon in time for the 2012 London Olympic Summer Games.

Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d’Epargne) also made his 2009 road season debut at Sunday’s race, but won’t be competing again this week at the five-day Mallorca Challenge.

“I am taking part in a training camp in Mallorca since last Tuesday with my team and it was very nice today to be back in the bunch after so many months without competing,” Valverde said. “The race of today was not exactly the kind of race I can win but for me it was very important to be present today because I always did well in the Challenge in the past.”

Valverde will stay on Mallorca this week to train and will race again at the Tour du Haut Var (Feb. 21-22) in France.
